cuboino is a tangible, digital extension for the marble-game cuboro.
It consists of a set of cubes that are seamlessly compatible with the cuboro cubes. In contrast to the passive cuboro cubes, cuboino modules are active parts of a digital system consisting of sensor cubes, actor cubes and supply cubes. By snapping them together, the playercan build a modular system that functions according to he individual functionalities of the cuboino cubes.
cuboino establishes a new pathway that is not embodied in the marble, but adapts to the medium of its transmission. Signals can be received by multiple modules, creating more than one signal at a time. This allows signals to intertwine and thus create more dynamic and complex outcomes.

When activated, this cube sheds a light into the direction it is pointed at. The cube can be used to activate the light-sensor cube or just for debugging of a track.
This cube emits a sound of a pre-defined frequency when activated. It can be used to activate the light-sensor cube or just for debugging purposes.
This cube acts like a shunting switch for the marble track. When activated, the shunting turns 90 degrees and thus leads the marble into the opposite direction.
This cube can hold a bunch of marbles. When activated, the cube releases one single marble onto the track. This makes this cube the ideal starting point for a marble track.
When the ambient light level rises quickly, this cube is activated. This can be caused by shedding a light onto the sensor side of the cube or quickly removing a shadow and thus increasing the amount of light. Hence this cube detects an activated light-actor cube if aligned correctly.
This cube is able to sense sound of a pre-defined frequency. It also reacts to loud noises when occuring in the right frequency.
When a marble runs through the track on top of the cube, a light barrier is intersected and the cube is activated. The cube can also be activated by putting anything else into the light-barrier.
This cube has to be part of every working cuboino network as it supplies energy to all cubes physically connected. Multiple energy cubes are allowed in one network.
This cube just transmits energy and signals and multiplexes the outputs with its six connectable sides.
Due to its modular nature, cuboino cubes allow for different systems to be assembled by the player. Here a selection of systems and concepts are presented in order to showcase the possibilities of cuboino cubes.marble distributor
cuboino was created in the course of my bachelor-thesis.
The thesis deals with the extension of analog games using digital technology. cuboino is the try to exemplify the possibilities of this approach.
